The Summer Garden Concert Series is back for a fourth season ... the very best in live and lively Sunday afternoon music brought to you by Mr. Sippy Productions! Bands from far and wide perform from a soundstage in the Great Lawn behind the Cafe at The Governor's Inn, an idyllic setting for a summer garden party in a shaded private garden. Have a seat at a table with parasol, or right up front by the band where you can bring your own garden chair or lawn blanket. Have fun with a Frisbee, Hacky-Sack or just enjoy some good, casual and inexpensive food and drink from the Cafe. The Inn's tents and canopies ensure all concerts will take place regardless of weather.
Performances run 4-7 pm each Sunday.

June 17 - The New England Bluegrass Band

Critically acclaimed both in the U.S., Canada and Europe, the NEBgB has earned a place in history of bluegrass in a relatively short time. Recording and touring credits with the greats of bluegrass such as Don Stover, Tony Rice, J.D. Crowe and others. Recently featured at European World of Bluegrass Festivals in Switzerland and the Netherlands the band left standing room only audiences on their feet and are already in demand to return. Their first recording (2004) "Things In Life" received excellent reviews across the U.S. and overseas. Their 2004 CD release was called: "Bluegrass at it's Best!" Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine

June 24 - The Joyce Andersen Band

Joyce's fiery fiddling and soulful singing rocket her band of veteran seacoast sidemen through a spicy musical gumbo. Honkytonk, blues, cry-in-your-beer-ballads, rockin' Irish fiddle tunes with a New Orleans beat, and Andersen's own country/folk/pop originals are some of the tasty fare that this band serves up. Everything from hip shakers to buckle shiners.

July 1 - The Okratones

Featuring Cecil Abels on vocals, guitar, and mandolin; Wendell Haag on guitar and vocals; and Kevin Guyer on bass and vocals. The Okratones meet on common ground that includes classic bluegrass and honky tonk, soulful '70s country, high-harmony gospel, western swing, rockabilly, and R&B, with a great many songs either by or about the numerous musical heroes of Mississippi.

July 8 - Avocado Lounge

Avocado Lounge started their harmonious magic in the cold winter of '04 in a little shack on the Piscataqua River. Paul, an acoustic guitar player for years heard Jennie, who was spending her days performing in operettas and musicals, randomly singing and tinkering with the piano at a Christmas party. He had been searching for another acoustic player to gig with when heard her vocals and thought to himself, "I think I could work with that..." Not playing the guitar herself, Jennie took to the rythm section and is now a solid tambourine, shaker and djembe player. Not even a year after their first rehearsal, the duo was off to the south of France landing gigs in the local bars of Provence. Nine months of stumbling through the language, meeting and playing with great musicians and practicing in between travels and french class, they have grown into a tight dynamic duo with a culturally eclectic repertoire of music containing everything from originals to reggae, rock, blues and bluegrass.

July 15 - Jon Nolan and Hokum

Smart and introspective americana/pop anchored by Jon's stirring and brilliantly emotive vocals, earnest songwriting, enviable guitar tone and a crack band of New England's Roots-Rock heavies. Jon fronted the seminal roots rock act Say ZuZu for more than ten years before gathering local bass champion Tim McCoy, along with Boston's Jim Gambino on keys (of Swinging Steaks fame) and drummer Ken Schopf to form a backup band for his solo endeavor.

July 22 - Melvern Taylor and the Fabulous Meltones

Melvern Taylor writes songs and plays the ukulele. He is backed up by his Fabulous Meltones. Together they make records and play shows.Once upon a time, people like the Everly Brothers, Carole King and Sam Cooke made pop songs—timeless, accessible and instantly familiar music. Melvern Taylor and The Fabulous Meltones craft brilliant songs that remind us that "pop" isn’t a dirty word.

July 29 - Roundhouse Blues

Roundhouse combines the Memphis blues with New Orleans Zydeco and a little bit of the Chicago sound to create an evening of jump blues and swing. They are a Mardi Gras party every time they play. The band’s original material draws on the influences like the Neville Brothers and Room Full of Blues, producing grooves that just make you want to move. Nominated for the Seacoast Spotlight Award in the Blues and R&B category in 2004 and 2005, Roundhouse is becoming one of the more popular dance bands in the Seacoast area. The band attracts a wide variety of people, including local swing dance enthusiasts.

August 19 - Cormac McCarthy Band

Cormac McCarthy is established as one of New England’s finest singer songwriters. “I rarely issue directives but, next time he comes within 100 miles you must go hear him!” (Seth Rogovoy - special to The Boston Phoenix). The Phoenix also chose his as one of the Top Ten concerts (which included Bob Dylan and Ani Defranco).

Two-time nominee for the Boston Music Awards, McCarthy tours nationally sharing his delightful humor and performing his finely crafted songs. He has what The Boston Globe calls a “devastating wit and enormous writing gifts, capable of putting chills into your spine or a silly grin on your face.” Cormac’s songs reveal some of the magic of real life in a truthful, superbly literate style, delivered with a soulful baritone and a hot guitar.

August 26
